"Reclaiming Desire"

Is It Right For You?

Click for larger picture- Reclaiming Desire: Four keys to Finding Your Lost Libido, by Andrew Goldstein, M.D., and Marianne Brandon, Ph.D.It is becoming increasingly clear that low libido is a common complaint for women of all ages. Low sex drive can be an extremely destructive force in a marriage, resulting in impaired intimacy and decreased closeness between partners. Skyrocketing divorce rates remind us that intimacy in all forms is essential to the health of a long-term relationship. As such, a focus on sexual reconnection can only serve to strengthen a couples bond and deepen emotional as well as physical intimacy.

Marital discord is not the only social issue that correlates with female sex drive. Depression represents an enormous health concern for women – it is estimated that one in seven women experience an episode of clinical depression in her lifetime. Low sex drive is a common – almost universal – symptom of this illness. Relatedly, many antidepressants have been shown to further decrease sex drive. These drugs represent a MULTI-BILLION dollar industry, and it is estimated that 70% of these subscriptions are given to women! Focusing on the treatment of low sex drive in women can thus have a tremendous positive impact on a woman’s mental health in general.

Finally, most women are unaware of how other types of medications, such as their birth control pills, may very well be decreasing their sex drive. The newer progesterone pills are the more likely culprits because of their particular hormonal blend. Women can attribute their low sex drive to emotional issues when in fact their method of birth control may be causing the problem.

Reclaiming Desire is the first book offering a holistic approach to understanding and treating low libido. Until now, declining female sex drive has been misunderstood and oversimplified by self-help texts. In Reclaiming Desire, women are offered clear guidance in understanding and working through their sexual concerns from physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual levels. Women are supported in the development of their sexuality, resulting in a stronger sense of her womanhood, and a deepening sexual experience with their partners.
